The Sentinel Alpine Observatory is built on a powerful processing and storage cluster for accessing and exploiting the potential of Sentinel data in the Alpine region. Having both the storage and processing facilities closely connected guaranties efficient development of satellite-data based products.
The infrastructure is available via a cloud computing service, accessible from saocompute.eurac.edu. Currently Open Nebula is used as the resource management backend. The principal users are meant to be scientist interested into exploiting Sentinel data over the Alpine region. Any interested user should contact firstname.lastname@example.org for requesting a specific account. An access user manual can be found here.
Using technology like OCCI (Open Cloud Computing Interface) it will also be possible to interconnect with other existing cloud computing services. A first successful interconnection has been created with the EODC (Earth Observation Data Center) and further collaboration is planned within the context of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 project ECOPOTENTIAL.
